I’m Debra, the founder of Comedy Barks, a small but mighty brand created from resilience, gratitude, and love for the incredible service dog community.
A few years ago, my life changed forever. I survived both a brain tumor removal and an aortic dissection — two challenges that tested every part of me. Recovery wasn’t easy, but it gave me a new perspective on what it means to live with courage, compassion, and humor.
During that journey, my service dog became my lifeline for assistance and for emotional strength and laughter when I needed it most.
One thing I noticed again and again: people often approach service dogs when they shouldn’t. Most of them mean well, but they just don’t understand.
That’s when the idea for Comedy Barks was born.
I started designing service dog shirts for handlers to wear. These shirts educate the public in a friendly, clear, and sometimes funny way. Because awareness doesn’t have to be cold or clinical. It can come with a smile.
